Spano, Landis commit to playing softball in college


Seniors Bella Spano and Becca Landis have committed to playing softball at the next level.  Spano will attend Ohio Northern University. where she will play softball, and Landis will head to the University of Mount Union, where she will play softball.

Bella Spano is a four year letter winner and captain of the softball team. She was also recognized as a member of the all-academic team in both softball and volleyball and as second team all-league, second team all-district and part of the all Ohio Northeast District Underclass softball team in 2019. In addition to her athletic achievements, Bella has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout her time here at Mathews. She is one of the valedictorians of her graduating class, the student body president, the treasurer of the National Honor Society and has also served as student council president, class president and president of the Friends of Rachel service group. She has also participated in the HOBY and RYLA leadership programs. 

Becca Landis is a four year letter-winner in softball and received first team all-NAC and first team all-district honors. She was also chosen to play in the underclass all-star tournament for softball. Becca is a member of National Honors Society and participates in the YSU College Credit Plus program. Throughout her years in high school she has been a member of Student Council, Class Vice President, Spanish Club, and Class Secretary. Becca also attended the HOBY leadership program and has earned subject awards in Chemistry, Physics and Spanish while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. She will also graduate as a valedictorian of her class.
