Mathews Local Schools hires new math teacher

Students at Mathews High School will be greeted by a new face when they return after winter break.  Michelle Hinegarnder has been hired by the district to teach seventh and eighth grade math. She will join the district’s math department when school resumes on Thursday, January 2, 2020. 

Hinegarnder comes to Mathews High School from Bedford City Schools, where she taught seventh and eighth grade mathematics.  She also led the mathematics department of 15 educators. In addition to her time at Bedford City Schools, Hinegarnder spent 13 years as an adjunct professor at Notre Dame College.

During her tenure, Hinegarnder has received multiple grants and awards including the Bedford City Schools Foundation Grant, First Energy STEM Grant, Heskett Middle School Teacher of the Year, PTSA Teacher of the Year and Heskett Middle School Helping Hand Award winner.

Hinegarnder and her husband Chris live in Southington.  They have five children and one grandchild.
