Mathews Elementary fourth grade students recently took a field trip that brought learning to life outside the classroom. Students visited the Arms Family Museum of Local History, the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, and the Butler Institute of American Art.
At the Arms Family Museum, students took part in a guided tour and explored the Arms family’s interests, including medieval-style architecture, nature and handcrafted items. They also viewed pieces from the Historical Society’s collections, like artwork, textiles, clothing and decorative arts featured in rotating exhibits.
At the Tyler History Center, students completed a scavenger hunt focused on important people, places and events from the Mahoning Valley. They also participated in the museum’s suitcase program, which gave them a closer look at what daily life was like for early pioneers.
The group also visited the Butler Institute of American Art, where guided tours introduced students to a wide range of artwork, including both two- and three-dimensional pieces.
