Our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders had special visitors this week! A big thank you to the Vienna and Fowler Fire Departments for stopping by to talk to our students about fire safety. The kids learned important tips on how to stay safe in case of an emergency!

Mathews Elementary is excited to announce that our K-2 school counselor, Samantha Lantz, has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Ohio School Counselor Association! This grant will be used to create 30 portable ‘Calm Corners’ for students who need extra emotional support at home.
📦 Each Calm Corner Kit is packed with tools to help students manage their feelings, featuring:
-Grief resources from the New York Life Foundation
-The books The Invisible String by Patrice Karst & A Little Peaceful Spot by Diane Alber
-A coping skills toolbox with play-doh, fidgets, sensory stickers, bubbles, and more!
-A stuffed animal, breathing cards, journal, and coloring book
-A checklist of coping skills and instructions for families
Thanks to Tanner Urick and Graceslyn Heath for helping us show off some of the items from the kits, which will be distributed by Mrs. Lantz throughout the school year!

The Mathews High School Band recently traveled to Mathews Elementary School to put on a performance for our younger students! It was a great opportunity for them to experience live music and learn more about our band program!

International Dot Day - global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' book The Dot - was celebrated on September 15. Our students at Mathews Elementary School heard the story and then used their imaginations to design their own unique dots!
The result? This beautiful collage that's on display in our hallway!

We're excited to share that some of our talented students presented a beautiful bound collection of Currie art to Christine Novicky with the Vienna Historic Society! This project was showcased at last year's Unity Day, and thanks to our PTO, the art was compiled into a book!

Due to the current rain and the forecast of continued weather concerns, we regret to announce that today's Parade of Mustangs has been canceled for the safety of all participants and spectators. We understand this is disappointing, but your safety is our top priority. We look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming homecoming week events. Check on our website and social media feeds for announcements and updates. Thank you for your understanding and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

ELEMENTARY: UPDATED DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PROCEDURES

Wishing you all a great year!

ELEMENTARY END OF DAY STUDENT PICK UP: When considering Permanent Pick Up this year, please understand that there is limited parking available in the lot. I am encouraging families to give first priority to using the buses. Due to the consolidation and not having to shuttle to and from Currie, it is expected that most bus travel times will be cut by 15-35 minutes. Your consideration of this is greatly appreciated.
Permanent Pick Up begins Monday, September 9. Prior to this date, all students being picked up must have a daily note or phone call to the school.
